DJs or Disc Jockeys have been a thriving part of the musical industry since the late 60’s. However, their popularity didn’t fully explode until the mid 80’s when techno and electronic music began hitting the mainstream music scene. Ever since, DJ-ing has spread across the entire globe and has become a staple in almost every countries music scene. Italy, in particular, has a powerful techno scene where one can find thousands of disc jockeys, but only a few measure up to be truly the best DJs of Italy.
In the rave scene, only one DJ has had mainstream success around the world and he is known as Technoboy. Technoboy, born Cristiano Giuisberti, came into the scene in 1992 and now has nearly a hundred mixes, albums and selections. His music genre is considered hard style or hard dance. He has played festivals all over the world and when he is not DJing he produces at the record company The Saifam Group. You can learn more about Technoboy at http://www.technoboy.it/
On the opposite side of the musical spectrum, there is Nicola Conte. He fuses Italian orchestra sounds with jazz to create a genre all of its own. He is noted as one of the most popular jazz revivalists in the disc jockey scene. He has seven albums including his newest ‘Love and Revolution’. There is none more unique than Nicola Conte. He can be found at his website http://www.nicolaconte.it/
For the new and uprising DJs, there is but one searing star of Italy’s dance scene. He goes by the stage name DJ Balli, but his real name is Riccardo Balli. He has a diverse past in music, starting out as a drummer for hardcore Italian band “Isotopi Del Dolore”. In 2000, he lost interest in the hardcore scene and began to focus on writing his own material. He now has eleven solo projects and numerous more compilation records. He is most popular for his adventurous turntable techniques. You can find his gig dates at http://www.myspace.com/djballi333
The Italian disc jockey scene is as diverse as any music scene. It is constantly changing and evolving and the only way to keep up with it is to change with it. If you love the DJ scene, you should do yourself a favor and check out the best of all styles: Technoboy, Nicola Conte, and DJ Balli. Everyone deserves to hear quality music of their taste.
